A Streetcar Named Desire- Opera Company of Middlebury

Opera Company of Middlebury – 15th Season

Douglas Anderson directs and Michael Sakir conducts the OCM orchestra in André Previn’s faithful opera adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ classic play, its jazz-inflected score evoking a highly charged New Orleans setting. OCM has assembled an experienced professional cast for this production, which kicks off its 15th season.  Soprano Meredith Lustig sings Blanche, bass-baritone Gregory Gerbrandt is the hotheaded Stanley Kowalski, with soprano Cree Carrico as Blanche’s sister Stella, joined by OCM favorites James Flora as Mitch, Olga Perez Flora as Eunice, Joshua Collier as Steve, Sara Petrocelli as the Mexican Woman, and Cameron Steinmetz as the Young Collector.

“I know I say every year that this is the best cast we’ve ever assembled,” says director Douglas Anderson, “but this company is really special.  Streetcar is based on a famously dramatic play, so we needed to find excellent singers who are also superb, no-holds-barred actors – performers who could star in the play version as well as the opera version.  This will be a gripping evening of music theater.”

“A genuine and wholly accessible hit, one sure to remain in the repertory of the world’s opera companies for a great many years.” (The Wall Street Journal)

Pre-performance talks are one hour before curtain at the Memorial Baptist Church.
