RESTORATION
The Town's Hall
We’ve been working on the Town Hall Theater project for over
nine years raising awareness and building a coalition of individuals and community groups. Phase One of our capital campaign was completed in record time, as we raised over $500,000 and purchased the building.
Phase 2
Phase 2.1
- The building has been stabilized and preserved for future generations.
Our building - one of Middlebury’s most historic structures
was in sad shape. The roof was totally rebuilt, and the brick walls
repaired and stabilized.
Phase 2.2
- The exterior of the building
has been restored to its 1884 glory.
The building is no
longer an eyesore, with bricked-in windows, plywood doors, and an ugly concrete ramp where a porch should be. We reinstalled the original stained-glass windows, repaired and repointed the bricks, replaced the weathervane and copper cresting on the tower, and created a grand new porch and entrance.
The building is once again one of the most beautiful structures in Middlebury.
Phase 2.3
- The interior will become a spacious hall that can be used year-round.
With a ceiling rising to the very peak of the roof and the walls freshly sheet-rocked, the interior will be a beautiful and capacious space for theater, music, dances, meetings and receptions. Light will pour into the room through the newly restored stained-glass windows. It is the kind of large public meeting space that is sorely lacking in downtown Middlebury.
The lower level, with reinstalled windows, new structural support, and
new concrete floor has been reconfigured to accommodate an elevator, art
gallery, rehearsal space, and a new community room/studio theater.
On the upper level, the Erie Volkert Mainstage Theater will be completed
and a new wing will house administrative and storage space as well as
heating, ventilation, air conditioning and sprinkler systems.
